FOUNDED 2011 • KOLOLO

We grew up in the same courtyards as the leaders we now coach.

It started with a simple frustration.

In 2010, three Ugandan professionals — a banker, an HR leader at a large NGO, and an organizational psychologist — kept having the same conversation over coffee in Kololo.

They were tired of watching talented Ugandans return from expensive leadership programs abroad with frameworks that did not fit the realities of managing family expectations, navigating tribal dynamics in teams, or leading organizations that were growing faster than their systems.

"We need to stop importing solutions," one of them said. "We need to grow our own."

THE NAME

Why "Sunlit Courtyard"?

In many Ugandan homes and institutions, the courtyard is where the real conversations happen. Where elders advise, where conflicts are resolved, where young leaders are shaped. We chose this name because our work happens in that same spirit — open, honest, grounded, and always in relationship.

Fourteen years of walking alongside Ugandan leaders.

2011
First office in Kololo

Started with four clients — two NGOs, one bank, one government agency. All word of mouth. No website. No brochure.

2014
First team program

A struggling regional bank asked us to work with their entire management team. We learned that real change takes time and repeated honest conversations, not workshops.

2017
Emerging Leaders Program launched

We saw too many capable mid-level managers being promoted without support. The cohort model was born from listening to what they actually needed.

2020
COVID and the questions it forced

We shifted everything online while staying present with clients through the hardest months. Many organizations discovered that culture and communication were now survival issues.

2025
Still learning

Today we work with over 70 organizations across Uganda and the region. We have never stopped listening. Every year the questions leaders bring are more complex — and more honest.

Our values are not decoration.

Radical Honesty

We will tell you what we see, even when it is uncomfortable. Sugar-coating helps no one. We only take on work where we believe we can create real value.

Deep Cultural Fluency

We do not treat Ugandan context as an afterthought. Every program, every conversation, every recommendation is shaped by how things actually work here.

Long Memory

We remember what we have learned with you. We do not reset every time we meet. Your history with us matters.

Service Over Scale

We have deliberately stayed small enough to know our clients deeply. We will never grow at the expense of the quality of the work.

Uganda is changing fast. The leaders who will shape what comes next need support that understands where we have been and where we are going.

That is why we are still here.
